Following in the footsteps of the Bordeaux Administrative Court of Appeal, which in 2007 annulled the ministerial order of June 17, 2003 approving the classification of the Médoc Crus Bourgeois, on the principle that “…it is not enough to have a wine that is not classified as a Crus Bourgeois”. you can’t be judge and jury “on November 30, The Bordeaux Administrative Court has annulled the results of the 123rd Concours Général Agricole (2014 edition) for Pécharmant wines.
Indeed, in keeping with the consistency of its previous vintages, Château Corbiac was astonished to see its 2011 vintage fail to win a medal from the Commissariat Général du Concours, and then from the Ministry responsible for the competition. Worse still, it was not a finalist, in other words, eliminated from the local pre-selection in Bergerac.
The analyses carried out by an accredited and certified laboratory for the pre-selection showed that the 2011 vintage complied perfectly with the appellation’s criteria. In response to these doubts, Château Corbiac was presented by the Ministry of Agriculture with the sworn statements of the Pécharmant pre-selection jurors.
Knowing that two of the jurors are Pécharmant producers anda third is the oenologist for two GOLD medal winners, which the Ministry did not contradict, the Tribunal Administratif accepted Château Corbiac’s doubts as to the impartiality of the jury, finding as follows irregularity of the procedure leading to the result of the 123rd Concours Général Agricole (2014 edition) for Pécharmant wines.
